Is it okay to leave parts of my ballot blank if I have no opinion? Or will it cause an error?

I live in california, and some propositions I am unsure about which way to vote, or have no opinion. Can I abstain from voting on these and leave it to people who understand the problem, or will this cause some sort of error in my vote?
