How to connect Sony receiver to sound card?

I got a Sony STR-DH510 for my birthday awhile back and got a Creative Sound Blaster sound card too ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102021 ) and so I bought an optical cable hoping I could connect the two so I could use the receiver and speakers for my computer, but I can't seem to get it to work. Has anyone tried this or help me out, please?
